HEADHUNTER NIDALEE // LEAGUE OF LEGENDS
CHARACTER BUILD PROFILE
Character: Headhunter Nidalee Game: League of Legends Photographer: Phosphorescence Materials Cost: estimated $200-$250 Time Spent: random chunks over a few months! Date Completed: August 27, 2014 Debuted: DragonCon 2014 THE MOTIVATION
I wanted to cosplay a League character that had a good amount of armor. I picked Headhunter Nidalee because of the underlying cyberpunk theme, plus she's a fucking Amazononian. I went through a rivethead/cyberpunk phase in high school so I was very excited to bring this costume to life. If high-school-me met present-me and saw what I was embodying through cosplay past-me would research serious costume-making techniques at a much earlier age! THE BUILD I started this costume with the intention of doing a full foam build. I developed patterns for the breastplate and bracers and cut them into EVA foam, but then I changed my mind and wanted to do a full Worbla build instead. I wasn't sure about the capabilities of a foam breastplate and became concerned with having it stay on. I ended up doing the breastplate out of Worbla, and finished the rest of the pieces from foam. I found that the Worbla breastplate was too rigid for my liking, and I was pulling muscles just to try to get in and out of it! In retrospect I should have inserted a zipper in the Worbla and fit it into the design (but alas, I didn't think of it at the time >_<) Another challenge I threw at myself was incorporating lights. There aren't any photos of the back (I should take some, huh?) but I incorporated el wire so I got to light up! THE EXPERIENCE This was one of the least stressful cosplays to date! I was able to change into it fairly quickly, I wasn't as sweaty, and having a giant staff to serve as a walking stick helped get from point A to point B (to C, to D... etc). The only thing that took time to apply was the makeup! Debuting this a DragonCon was wonderful, and I was able to take part in the massive League of Legends photoshoot where I met some friends, old and new, and met many more of the awesome people from Dragon*Con LoL Cosplay - The Summoned group.
